Matthew Hamer, the Fabrication Team Lead at Nord Quantique, is set to present at the upcoming IQT Nordics conference. His expertise lies in manufacturing cutting-edge nanoscale devices crucial for quantum computing applications, particularly in quantum error correction. Hamer leads Nord Quantique’s Nanofabrication team, a Canadian quantum computing company that has made significant strides under his guidance, including the development of high-performance superconducting qubits—transmons—with lifetimes reaching 100 μs, which was a Canadian record at the time.

Hamer’s academic foundation is robust, having earned his MPhys from Lancaster University, England, and his PhD from The University of Manchester under the tutelage of Dr. Roman Gorbachev and the Nobel Prize-winning physicist Prof. Andre Geim. His background in condensed matter physics and his pioneering work in nanofabrication have equipped him with unique insights into the practical aspects of quantum technology development.

At the conference, Matthew will delve into the intricacies of creating robust quantum devices that meet the demanding requirements of quantum error correction, using his work at Nord Quantique as an example. His presentation is expected to shed light on the challenges and breakthroughs in quantum device fabrication, offering attendees a glimpse into the cutting-edge techniques that drive the quantum computing industry forward.

IQT Nordics/Helsinki, June 24-26, Aalto University, Dipoli Building, Helsinki
The second annual Nordics conference partners with Bluefors, Business Finland, The Finnish Quantum Institute, and VTT and will focus on real-world quantum technology applications.
