Trese, the popular Filipino comic and a hit Netflix-adapted animated series, will soon join the NFT (non-fungible token) wave and launch its own NFT collection this month.
Kajo Baldisimo, co-creator of the Filipino graphic novel series “TRESE,” collaborated with Luis Buenaventura, one of the Philippines’ first and premier NFT artists and a regular BitPinas contributor, to produce a new series of NFT collectibles dubbed “Trese x Cryptopop.”
The collection will be will be minted on Opensea and will be available for auction on January 25 at 12pm PHT. The bidding will be open for just 72 hours, and will end on 12pm of January 28.
The Trese NFTs will feature three of the novel’s key characters; Alexandra Trese, the Kambal, and the Tikbalang, which will be minted as unique motion paintings. The musical soundscape for each piece was created by guitarist and designer Marco Palinar.
Baldisimo and Buenaventura’s genesis piece, “Alexandra,” will be sold as a single-edition auction, with the minimum bid set at 2.666 ETH or equivalent to Php 446,549.25, at the time this article is written. On the other hand, both the “Kambal” and “Tikbalang” motion paintings will have 13 editions, with each edition priced at 0.666 ETH (or Php 111,553.56).
“I’m so excited to share my first foray into the world of NFTs and digital collectibles. It was great to work with Luis to create these pieces that speak to Trese fans all over the world.” said Baldisimo. “We can’t wait to show everyone what we’ve come up with.”
The NFTs of Alexandra, Kambal, and Tikbalang are the first three collectibles in a limited series which Baldisimo and Buenaventura will continue in 2022. In total, there will be 13 unique collectibles in the overall series.
“I’ve always been a fan of the work of Budjette Tan and Kajo Baldisimo, and it’s been amazing to see the growing popularity of the Trese series this year,” said Buenaventura. “Like the comics that inspired it, this NFT collection is our way of sharing Filipino mythology with the rest of the world.”
Last year, Buenaventura also collaborated with media personality and artist Heart Evangelista on two motion painting NFTs which netted 17.35 ETH (over 3.6M pesos) in auction. Accordingly, UnionDigital Bank, announced their plan to venture into the NFT market this year. The announcement was said during the virtual media roundtable E-TalkTales on December 21. (Read more: UnionDigital Bank Eyes Venturing Into NFT)
Further, other Filipino personalities and entities also onboarded into the digital NFT market who joined the wave by releasing their own or participating in an NFT project. These Filipinos are Nadine Lustre and Pia Wurtzbach as well as entities like Miss Universe Philippines, National Book Development Board (NBDB), Team Manila, and La Union Surf Club (LUSC).
