An amazing performance by Martin “stavn” Lund helped his team secure a 2-1 win against the French-Danish team of Vitality, who looked outclassed on Mirage as they fell with a 16-7 scoreline. They managed to fight back on Overpass as they came out the 16-14 victors, but the deciding map of Inferno went in the favor of Heroic after an impressive comeback attempt by Vitality from 6-14.
This is another disappointing result for Vitality, with the team struggling to meet expectations since the start of the season. They now exit the PGL Major Anwterp with a 2-3 record, their wins coming against Liquid and BIG.
stavn shined to get his team to the Major’s playoffs
The match started on Mirage, the French-Danish team’s pick, but they were unable to start strong as it took them seven rounds to get on the board with Kévin “misutaaa” Rabier‘s Tec9 three kill round giving Vitality a bit of hope for their T side. But it was all in vain, with them losing the next five rounds in a row, in the end the half finishing with a one-sided 13-2 scoreline. Heroic looked untroubled, with Martin “stavn” Lund being particularly impressive, as he ended the first half with 22 kills and 143 ADR.
Once a B attack in the pistol round put Heroic up to 14 rounds, closing out the map became a mere formality. They needed five map points to be able to wrap it up however, as Vitality at least managed to make the scoreline look respectable, in the end losing their map pick with a 16-7 scoreline.
Next up was Overpass, with the teams having very different records on the map up to this point. Heroic racked up a 89% win rate, while the Vitality lineup haven’t won a game on the map yet, also falling to NIP with a 16-4 scoreline at the Major.
Considering that, it was no surprise when four kills by René “TeSeS” Madsen on the pistol round put his team into an early lead. They put together a streak of four rounds before Vitality were able to strike back. They were able to find just two rounds, before Heroic once again took control of the game, going 6-2 up on the T side.
An incredible Deagle ace by Emil “Magisk” Reif kept Vitality alive in the series, enabling his team to even up the scores at 6-6. A late flurry of rounds for Dan “apEX” Madesclaire and company meant the scoreline at half time read 8-7 in the favor of the Danish team.
Once Vitality got to their T side however, they looked revitalized as a pistol round win set them up to take a 13-9 lead before a bomb defusal in a 1v3 situation by Rasmus “sjuush” Beck got his team their second round of the half. That flipped the momentum of the game on it’s head once again, as Heroic were able to almost tie up the scores at 13-14, with Casper “cadiaN” Møller starting to win his AWP duel against Mathieu “ZywOo” Herbaut.
But when the stakes were at its highest, it was Kévin “misutaaa” Rabier who delivered with another triple kill, entrying with the only rifle in his team while his teammates saved for the next round. That proved to be the deciding moment on the map, as they went on to even things up 16-14.
The decider happened on Inferno, where Heroic came out swinging and quickly reached a 10-2 lead with stavn and sjuush providing many great holds for the Danish team. The last few rounds finally went in the favor of Vitality, as they finished the half down 5-10.
After the sides switched it was Heroic who won the first four rounds. A 14-5 scoreline proved simply too much for Vitality to come back from, even though they gave it a good attempt. They found seven straight rounds, getting the scoreline to just a two round deficit. The next round it was Heroic who finally found match point with cadiaN winning a 1v1, immediately converted the following round to book their place in the playoffs.
