Greene County transit company H&T Trucking to add 70 employees over 5 years

Date:

GREENE COUNTY – H&T Trucking, Inc, a trucking and logistics company is expanding in Greene County, investing $450,000 in capital with plans to hire 70 new employees over the next five years.

And all of those jobs will come with an approximate annual salary of $70,000, according to Kyle DeHaven, the county manager for Greene County, North Carolina, who was one of the speakers who announced the project during a press event on Thursday afternoon.  Median household income in Greene County is $43,563 according to the U.S. Census Bureau.

“This company has already shown a model for growth,” said DeHaven, noting that the company committed to hiring 31 positions within the next 18 months.

Now, the company will expand in a building located in Stantonsburg, N.C., in part due to a $175,000 grant from the state of North Carolina that was announced earlier on Thursday.

The company transports grain, animal feed, and live animals, and intends to add an additional 2,250 square feet to its existing facility, according to a statement from North Carolina Governor Roy Cooper and the North Carolina Department of Commerce.

That expansion, backed by the state grant, includes an investment of $162,589 by the company, and is anticipated to add 31 jobs over the next 18 months.

But the company, which has been operating in Greene County for three decades, will invest a total of $450,000 and plans to hire 70 new workers for the site over the next five years, according to a statement from the NC Global TransPark Economic Development Region sent to WRAL TechWire on Thursday afternoon.

The company already employs 122 workers, a spokesperson for the NC Global TransPark Economic Development Region told WRAL TechWire on Thursday.

“The significant role we play in the county to provide jobs for the citizens and contribute to the investment of economic growth in eastern NC is an honor,” said Jeff Turnage, the owner of H&T Trucking, in a statement.

Beyond ‘Project Haul,’ 14 other grants approved by NC on Thursday

According to the invitation to the announcement of the expansion project, the project was nicknamed “Project Haul.”

The $175,000 grant was approved on Thursday by the North Carolina Rural Infrastructure Authority (RIA), which all together approved 15 total grant requests that totaled $4,278,230,.

Including the 31 jobs tied to the H&T Trucking, Inc. grant, the 15 requests are expected to create a “total of 526 jobs, 324 of which were previously announced, according to the statement.”

“When North Carolina’s rural communities succeed so does our whole state,” Governor Cooper said. “These grants will stimulate more economic growth in rural North Carolina by improving buildings and other infrastructure to facilitate the creation of good jobs.”

Another recent economic development announcement from Asbury Graphite in Robeson County will be supported by a state grant, as well.

That grant will come in the amount of $120,000 grant to “support the renovation of a 49,000-square-foot building in Lumberton,” according to the statement.  And it is tied to the 22 jobs pledged to be created by the company, with 15 of those jobs tied to the state grant.
