Date:

Augmented reality has greatly altered the way we approach trying on products. It brought the advent of virtual try-on technology, enabling us to see how certain products will look when worn or applied.

In the fashion industry, the technology has allowed consumers to virtually try on products from the comfort of their homes using their mobile devices. It lets them get a feel of the product. It even offers options for customization so that users can experiment with how the products will look on them.

For consumers, it can be difficult to find a piece of jewelry that fits perfectly. This is especially true when making such purchases online. Imagining how the jewelry would look once they wear them presents another challenge.

Trillion: Leveraging AR for Virtual Try-On Experiences for Jewelry

Trillion aims to change all that by giving customers a more realistic and accurate way to virtually try on jewelry. The team behind Trillion shared their motivation for creating the app. According to them, The main idea that has influenced the process of the app creation and drives us so far is to provide a truly realistic experience.”

Using AR technology, Trillion lets customers use their smartphones to choose fine jewelry from its gallery and instantly see how it would look on a specific body part.

It combines the power of artificial intelligence and AR to deliver the most accurate and natural placements and displays for jewelry. Additionally, it supports a 360-degree view of each piece through innovative 3D modeling techniques. This allows you to see the jewelry in greater detail.

Aside from letting you have virtual try-on experiences for jewelry, you can also share photos and videos of your try-on experience via social media as well as buy the piece’s real version.

The Trillion Story

How did Trillion get its start? Trillion CEO Ruslan Pechenkin shared that the try-on technology was developed as a response to the jewelry industry being “rather archaic” on the digital front.

“The idea to create Trillion was born at the time of the COVID-19 pandemic. We wanted to provide customers with an opportunity to have exactly the same experience as in-store, but at the same time safe and from the comfort of their home,” he said.

According to Pechenkin, Trillion is the first app of its kind to have a virtual try-on feature that caters to both brands and customers. The growth of mobile device usage during the pandemic and how such devices are used to connect people with the rest of the world also influenced the creation of the app.

Trillion’s CTO Sergey Paskhalov shared what the process was like when they were designing the app.

“Our prime task was to create a simple and convenient application yet modern and meeting the needs of jewelry brands. The jewelry market is a typical luxury one, the audience and brands of which are demanding on the visual part and details,” said Paskhalov.

Thus, many hours were put into the app’s prototyping process, with Trillion now having undergone multiple redesigned versions. The MVP took six months to complete and another few months of debugging before the app was ready for commercial release.

“We are proud of the current UX design of the app. It gives the experience we wanted to deliver. We are flexible and not afraid of experiments, but at the same time, we listen to our clients and pay great attention to user behavior analytics,” Paskhalov added.

How Trillion Works

The app tracks the anatomical features of the body part where you would want to try on the jewelry. This enables the app to deliver an accurate and physically correct placement of your selected jewelry.

How does the app do all this?

According to Paskhalov, Trillion combines two neural networks to deliver an accurate, true-to-size virtual try-on experience. “The first neural network identifies the position of the key points of the hand (bones) in space. The second neural network identifies the skin, and having this combined information, our try-on technology determines the exact size of the finger,” said Paskhalov.

Jewelry Virtual Try-On Experiences - Trillion app

If you’re having difficulty finding a piece of jewelry that you’d like to try on, the app also comes with a virtual avatar, Amelie. This virtual avatar serves as your assistant and will help you explore the app.

Trillion’s goal is to empower consumers to make more informed decisions while letting them have fun. Its virtual try-on technology can also be integrated into e-commerce websites and apps in the jewelry industry via QR codes or try-on buttons for websites. This allows businesses to offer their clients a more interactive, engaging, and memorable shopping experience.

When developing Trillion, Pechenkin wanted to deliver a seamless try-on experience to users, allowing them to switch pieces and change fingers during the try-ons. To do so, he and his team continuously develop and enhance the app’s technology, from neural networks to the details on the jewelry, to ensure anatomically accurate jewelry placement while displaying jewelry that’s “true to size, shape, and design.”
