German AR/VR software company Holo-Light opening Durham office, will hire

Date:

DURHAM – The German-Austrian company Holo-Light selected Durham for the site of its first office in the United States.

The company, which completed a $6.3 million Series A fundraising round in December 2021, chose the region due to the growth of the technology industry ecosystem and the access to talent, Helmut Gulde, the company’s chief corporate development officer told WRAL TechWire.

“We looked at several locations for our US headquarters and found Durham to be the most advantageous for us,” said Gulde

Holo-Light offers XRnow, a streaming-as-a-service ecosystem, which according to a statement “brings the power of the cloud to mobile devices.”

Gulde noted that the technology is an “immersive ecosystem to host and stream every XR app,” and highlighted the company’s existing customers, which include BMW Group, Proctor & Gamble, and Medtronic.

Customers pay an annual license fee for the software, said Gulde.

“The United States is the largest market in the world for AR / VR applications and the industrial metaverse, so we wanted to better support our rapidly growing customer base and partnerships in the US,” said Gulde.

Durham was attractive due to its east coast location, the proximity of the region to existing and potential customers, and the growth of the ecosystem.

Hiring in Durham

The company will be based at the One City Center location of WeWork in downtown Durham.

“We plan to hire 10 people in Durham but that number can grow as we have continued success with enterprise customer sales and additional funding options,” said Gulde.

According to Gulde, who is responsible for the startup’s global growth and will oversee the expansion of the company into the United States, the firm could raise a Series B round within the next year.

That’s an additional benefit to locating in the Triangle, said Gulde.

“We have had some initial discussions with venture investors regarding our B round but plan to talk with additional funds who may align with our vision for bringing the power of the cloud to mobile XR devices,” said Gulde.
