FURIA win Brazilian derby against TeamOne in ESL Pro League Group D

Date:

FURIA bounced back from their ESL Pro League opening day loss at the hands of Entropiq by defeating the biggest underdogs in Group D, TeamOne, who remain winless after two match days.

The squad under the orders of Nicholas “guerri” Nogueira, who is also standing in for the team as they could not play the event with either André “drop” Abreu or Lucas “honda” Cano, started off by stealing their countrymen’s map pick from under their noses, coming back from an 11-14 deficit to win it 16-14.

The second map, Inferno, was also a close affair, going all the way to overtime with an excellent late effort by TeamOne in regulation as they got three rounds in a row when up against the wall, but it was FURIA who showed their stripes in the double-overtime affair to come out on top.

KSCERATO shone in a rough and tumble series

The series between the two Brazilian teams kicked off on Mirage, TeamOne’s pick, and it was Pedro “Maluk3” Campos and his men who showed proficiency on the attack, stepping ahead of their countrymen at the game’s onset. As FURIA recovered they started to look stronger and stronger, building up an economy and bringing it to a tie, 6-6, although they weren’t able to take the lead at the switch.

FURIA found themselves ahead on Inferno after two rounds in the second half, but a big force round by Enzo “xns” Henrique with a Desert Eagle set TeamOne back on the path to securing their map pick. Despite falling behind on the T side, the squad led by guerri were able to bring it back in extremis to secure their rival’s pick 16-14.

FURIA seemed poised to take the series after stealing the first map from under TeamOne, and following an ace by Kaike “KSCERATO” Cerato on the attacking side of Inferno they went up 4-0. Mario “malbsMd” Samayoa and company were not about to let go and with Maluk3 shining, they brought it back all the way to a 6-9 lead at the half.

The second half quickly became a brawl as the two teams went back-and-forth, leaving things tied up at 12-12. It looked like FURIA were going to push through as they took three rounds in a row, hitting match point, but a final spurt by TeamOne brought it back even after 30 rounds.

The two teams continued to rumble in overtime, needing not one but two sets of extra rounds, but it was finally FURIA who showed that extra bit of resolve to take the map, 22-19, and tally their first win in Group D.
