A Glimpse into a Hajj Journey Aboard a Special Garuda Indonesia Boeing 747-400

Come along with me on a Boeing 747 journey from Indonesia to Saudi Arabia for Hajj. It's sure to be an unforgettable experience!
The journey commenced at Jakarta's Soekarno-Hatta International Airport. A total of 450 pilgrims completed their check-in procedures outside the airport and proceeded directly to the airside to await boarding the Boeing 747. For numerous pilgrims, this was their inaugural flight experience. To expedite the boarding process, no boarding passes were issued; instead, pilgrims received a seat number, with red indicating seats on the left side and blue on the right. As the plane's engines roared to life, many pilgrims began reciting prayers for a secure journey.
Captain Vitaly, hailing from Russia, and First Officer Anton, from Ukraine, piloted the Boeing 747 on this flight. The journey to Jeddah took a little more than 9 hours. Garuda Indonesia had arranged for the B747-400 through a wet lease from Aquiline International to complete this task.
The passengers on this flight were very modest and calm. A significant number of them had never used an airplane restroom before and required help from the flight crew. The staff on this Hajj flight were temporary contractors, employed only for two months specifically for the Hajj pilgrimage. Despite this short tenure, they performed their duties with great pride and honor, as Hajj holds national importance in Indonesia. The crew was exceptionally considerate, making sure the pilgrims' journey was as comfortable as possible.
As the plane was about to fly over Saudi Arabia, numerous pilgrims donned white garments, and the group leader initiated prayer calls at Miqot, marking the beginning of their Hajj journey. We touched down at the designated Hajj terminal in Jeddah. Upon arrival, emotions ran high as many pilgrims expressed their gratitude to the crew for their attentive service during the flight.
I felt deeply honored and privileged to be a part of their flight. The passengers and crew displayed incredible kindness toward me! Many of them had spent their entire lives waiting and saving for this once-in-a-lifetime journey.
Following the conclusion of our flight, the first phase of the Hajj pilgrimage has successfully wrapped up, with more than 200,000 Indonesian pilgrims being flown to Saudi Arabia. This marks one of the most significant airlift operations.
