Former Activision Blizzard Esports CMO Joins DC

Warner Bros. announced Monday that Daniel Cherry III, former chief marketing officer at Activision Blizzard Esports, has joined DC as its new senior vice president and general manager. This role created for Cherry will see him work alongside Jim Lee, chief creative officer and publisher at DC, with both reporting directly to  Warner Bros. Global Brands and Experience President Pam Lifford. Chery will officially take up the new role Sept. 7.

Cherry joined Activision Blizzard Esports as part of a group of executive hires brought on from the sports and entertainment world to bolster the company’s esports efforts for Call of Duty and Overwatch in 2018.  

Prior to joining Activision Blizzard, Cherry served as the chief marketing and innovation officer for the Prudential Center and NHL team the New Jersey Devils. The Prudential Center and the Devils are owned by Camden, New Jersey-based Harris Blitzer Sport & Entertainment, who also own the NBA team the Philadelphia 76ers and esports-adjacent organizations such as New Meta Entertainment (of which Dignitas is a part of) and NBA 2K League team 76ers Gaming Club.

Cherry has also served in several executive marketing roles for four years at adult beverage company Diageo and as CMO for North American Soccer League team the New York Cosmos.
