India’s prime minister, Narendra Modi, used AI to help develop the nation’s 25-year development roadmap, according to comments made during a live-streamed interview with news agency ANI on Monday.

In pursuit of that goal, his Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Tuesday published its vaalien manifesti [PDF], which promises to use AI to combat the illicit drugs trade, and to improve management of road traffic.

The party has also promised to “deepen our component ecosystem and take semiconductor design and manufacturing to a new level to become one of the global majors in chip manufacturing” – but without a timeframe for achieving that status. ®
