The Cleveland Guardians have moved on from Terry Francona after he made it public that he would be stepping down in October of 2023. Former journeyman catcher, Stephen Vogt has been tapped for the job, starting next season.
Via Twitter, the Guardians’ official Twitter account reported the news on Monday.
Vogt played for six teams (not including a second stint with the Oakland Athletics) during his eleven-year playing career. He won a World Series with the Atlanta Braves in 2021, then ended his career with a second stint as an A.
His coaching career began with the Seattle Mariners, as he became the bullpen and quality control coach. This is the highest (and only) managerial position on his resume before replacing Terry Francona, who led Cleveland to the World Series in 2016.
