Cam Akers Tears Achilles, Out for Season

Date:

Just a few weeks after acquiring him, Minnesota Vikings running back Cam Akers is now out for the season. Akers was feared to have torn his Achilles tendon on Sunday, and an MRI on Monday confirmed the worst.

NFL Network’s Mike Garofolo reported the news of the team’s fears via Twitter on Sunday.

Akers was a second round draft pick out of Florida State back in the 2020 NFL Draft. He was chosen by the Los Angeles Rams, who kept him tenured until trading him for a conditional seventh rounder in September of 2023.

This injury is the second of its type for Akers, who tore his Achilles in July of 2021. Despite that, the Rams went on a long enough playoff run to secure his return for Super Bowl LVI, which they eventually won. He had 35 combined rushing and receiving yards in that game.
