Call of Duty‘s 2021 iteration, Vanguard, has yet to be released, but leaks have already revealed details of Call of Duty 2022’s campaign, from its “gritty and unrelenting” tone to a possible morality system reminiscent of Red Dead Redemption 2.

Call of Duty 2022 is rumored to be a sequel to 2019’s Modern Warfare developed by Infinity Ward. Its story is said to follow American soldiers going to war against Colombian drug cartels, and, according to a Twitter user whose information has largely been corroborated by VGC, it will push the series into still darker territory.

According to the Twitter leaker, @RalphsValve, shot enemies will “not die immediately, depending on where they’ve been wounded: they’ll beg for their lives, insult you, call out for their Mother, hallucinate, gurgle/moan/groan/death rattle, convulsions.” The gore will be realistic and change according to the caliber of the bullet, and enemies will lose limbs and survive, screaming in pain.

A moral compass system will reportedly offer players key decisions that will in turn affect several moments in the campaign.

Ralph also revealed several gameplay details. The player character will react to high stress situations such as an ambush by struggling to insert magazines to his weapon, audibly breathing more heavily, and trembling during call-outs. Weapons will jam, players will have to jerk the bolt and expend a wasted bullet, which they can then retrieve.

A separate VGC report has also claimed Warzone will receive a map inspired by Call of Duty 2022 featuring “various classic points of interest.” Multiplayer maps from the original Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 will be expanded and combined to create the map. VGC names Afghan, Quarry, Terminal and Trailer Park as likely inclusions.

Activision has not commented on the leaks, and Call of Duty 2022 remains officially unconfirmed.
