Auburn to Hire Hugh Freeze as Head Coach

Date:

The University of Auburn is finalizing a deal to make Liberty head coach Hugh Freeze their head coach according to Ross Dellinger.

Freeze has been at Liberty for four seasons and has posted a 34-15 record. He was able to go 10-1 with the Flames in 2020.

Before his time at Liberty, Freeze posted a 39-25 record at Ole Miss. He was able to win the Sugar Bowl following the 2015 season with the Rebels. His first head coaching job was at Arkansas State, where he had a 10-3 record in one season.

There will be controversy around the move, as Freeze was fired after calling an escort service and having recruiting violations. He also has sent direct messages to alleged sexual assault victims at Liberty University, which has caused some concern over his hiring.

Freeze takes over for an Auburn team that was originally coached by Bryan Harsin before Cadillac Williams took over as interim coach. They were 5-7 on the year.
