Apple is quietly stepping up its artificial intelligence (AI) efforts to transform the capabilities of its next-generation iPhones. This is a calculated step towards the future. However, Wedbush Securities’ Daniel Ives claims that Apple is about to make some sizable AI mergers and acquisitions. Ives says Apple won’t remain in the background and points out that there is an ongoing arms race in AI.

Additionally, a research note from Morgan Stanley indicates that Apple is now hiring with a different emphasis, with nearly half of AI job postings emphasizing “Deep Learning,” which is consistent with the algorithms that underpin generative AI systems like ChatGPT from OpenAI.

Towards generative AI

Although tech competitors such as Microsoft, Google, and Amazon have made multi-billion-dollar investments in AI, the maker of the iPhone has been coy about its intentions. Insiders, however, claim that the business is actively engaged in creating its extensive language models, which would be similar to OpenAI’s ChatGPT.

During a summer analyst briefing, Apple CEO Tim Cook made a significant point to highlight ethical investment and innovation in AI technologies, implying that the company is conducting extensive research on a wide range of AI advancements.

Apple’s ultimate objective, meanwhile, is to integrate generative AI into its mobile devices. This is a calculated step that would allow AI chatbots and apps to function directly with the hardware and software of the phone.

This move to on-device processing from cloud-powered services demonstrates Apple’s dedication to innovation and is in line with the expanding decentralization of AI trends.

Industry insiders also reveal Apple’s foray into large language models, which serve as the basis for generative AI products like ChatGPT from OpenAI. Experts had predicted that Apple would take on OpenAI’s ChatGPT with this move.
