Animal Crossing: New Horizons has several improvements coming with its Anniversary update, including an expansion of players’ custom designs.
Nintendo highlighted the free update on the game’s official Twitter on Tuesday, March 16. Scheduled to drop on March 18, the update includes a free anniversary cake furnishing, the release of the Nintendo x Sanrio villagers pack, seasonal items, island tour capability, and an expansion of the fan-favorite custom design mechanic.

Starting on March 18, all Animal Crossing players will have the opportunity to purchase two significant upgrades to the custom design mechanic directly from the NookStop terminal: the Custom Design Pro Edition + and the Custom Design Portal.
Custom Design Pro Edition + costs 2000 NookPoints and allows players to customize more items including handbags, uchiwa fans, small flags, photo stands, and umbrellas–the latter of which being more of a returning addition than brand new one. With all these new items, it follows that players will need more custom slots. Fortunately, Nintendo has that covered, implementing 50 extra slots to both Normal and Pro versions of the app.
The Custom Design Portal costs 300 NookPoints and essentially lets players take the Able Sisters’ Custom Design Portal feature on their NookPhone wherever they go. Players will no longer need to visit the tailor duo to upload and download custom designs from the community.
