Andrew McCutchen Returns to Pirates

Date:

36-year-old outfielder Andrew McCutchen is returning to the MLB team that made him a star for at least one more year. McCutchen has signed a one-year, $5 million deal with the Pirates pending a physical. It is unclear at this point, but this signing could herald the end of his career.

Post-Gazette Sports’ Jason Mackey reported the news via Twitter on Friday.

McCutchen joined the MLB in 2009, playing with the Pirates until 2017. He, then, bounced around to the Giants, Yankees, Phillies and Brewers. In his career he’s earned five All-Star appearances, a National League MVP, a Gold Glove and four Silver Slugger awards.

In 2022, McCutchen got 122 hits in 580 plate appearances. He recorded 69 RBI, including 17 home runs during his only year with the Brewers. All of that is good for a batting average of .237. The highest batting average of his career came in 2012, when he hit .327.
