Akiem Hicks Signs Contract with Buccaneers

Date:

Defensive tackle Akiem Hicks has signed a deal with a new team. Hicks has reportedly inked a one-year, $10 million contract with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. This deal comes after the Chicago Bears allowed him to become a free agent at the end of the 2021 season.

The NFL’s official Twitter account announced the news, reported by Tom Pelissero, on Tuesday afternoon.

Hicks was drafted with the 89th pick in the third round of the 2012 NFL Draft by the New Orleans Saints. He played with the Saints for three full seasons before being traded to the New England Patriots just three games into the 2015 season. He, then, signed with the Chicago Bears, playing there for six years.

In 2021, Hicks played just nine games, totaling 3.5 sacks and 25 combined tackles. He missed seven games due to multiple injuries, including an ankle sprain. Now, the veteran defensive tackle will join the second-most recent Super Bowl-winner.
