5 Potential Landing Spots for Derrick Henry

Date:

The Titans have shed some players from their roster and are reportedly shopping Derrick Henry. Here are five potential landing spots for Derrick Henry.

1. Miami Dolphins

Miami has needed a running back for a few seasons and may be willing to trade to get one. Henry being inserted into the Dolphins’ offense would give them several playmakers as Tua Tagovailoa tries to remain healthy. With a better run game, the Dolphins could be more serious contenders next season.

While they have a need at the position, it may be tough for the Dolphins to afford Henry. That includes his salary and facilitating a trade, as they don’t have a first-round pick. If they are able to find a deal and make it work under the cap, Henry would be a great fit in Miami.

2. Buffalo Bills

Buffalo is another team that has been searching for a running back for a while. Getting Henry would help the Bills be more efficient in the red zone, but would also help take some of the hits off of Josh Allen to keep him healthy. For a team wanting to take the next step and win a Super Bowl, the Bills will be looking for all ways to upgrade their roster.

Like the Dolphins, the Bills will have to make some moves to make the trade work under the cap. They do have more picks to offer the Titans if they do want to go through with a deal. With Allen and Henry in the same backfield, the offense would be extremely dynamic.

3. Philadelphia Eagles

Philadelphia made the Super Bowl last season behind the play of quarterback Jalen Hurts. Miles Sanders is a free agent and the Eagles could want to bring in a running back to help take the load off of Hurts. Adding Henry to an already stacked lineup could help them get right back to a Super Bowl.

The good news for a potential trade to the Eagles is that they have draft capital to trade for Henry. They are also under the cap, but may need to make some moves to afford Henry, although it should be possible to afford him. Howie Roseman prefers to build the trenches through the draft, but a trade for a running back of Henry’s stature could really help the offense, while allowing the team to keep some of their picks.

4. Chicago Bears

Chicago has the number one pick and the most cap space in the league, which gives them plenty of opportunity to improve this offseason. David Montgomery is a free agent and although Khalil Herbert has impressed, Henry would still be an upgrade. Acquiring him could help open things up for quarterback Justin Fields.

The Bears won’t trade the first overall pick for Henry, but they may trade down for more picks. That will give them the capital to make a trade for Henry and they already have the cap space to afford him. If their cap space is spent wisely, they could be one of the most improved teams in the 2023 NFL season.

5. Carolina Panthers

Carolina traded Christian McCaffrey last season. They have a new coaching staff in place and may want to get a new running back, as D’Onta Foreman is a free agent. With Henry and a new quarterback, they could compete in the NFC South, which is projected to be pretty weak in 2023.

The Panthers currently have some draft capital that they could trade for Henry. They are a little over the cap, but they could make some moves to afford Henry. With a new quarterback, Henry can carry the offensive load while the passing game develops.
