The Meta Quest 2 VR headset has a little something for everyone.
There are hundreds of fantastic titles available to purchase in the Meta Quest Store right now. Whilst it’s great to have such a wide selection, it can also be a little overwhelming when choosing what to buy. To help you decide, I’ve put together a list of 10 incredible VR games you can play right now on your Quest 2.
Bear in mind that every person’s list of games might look a little different due to personal preferences, but despite these differences, every game listed here is highly rated.
Demeo
- Genre: Adventure, RPG (Role Playing Games), Strategy
- Price: $29.99
We start this list with Demeo, the multiplayer fantasy tabletop game. Demeo successfully recreates the feeling of playing a board game with family and friends but with none of the hassles of setting up or having to get everyone together in one place.
Pick from one of six character classes and join together to battle through randomly-generated dungeons in four separate campaigns (with more to come). Demeo is no cakewalk but it is an incredibly enjoyable and rewarding social experience that makes it easily one of the best Quest games to date.
Resident Evil 4 VR
- Genre: Action, Horror
- Price: $39.99
Play as special agent Leon Kennedy who is sent to a strange rural village to investigate the kidnapping of the president’s daughter, Ashley. This is no ordinary village though, as the inhabitants are under the influence of a mysterious cult and have become infected with mind-controlling parasites.
Resident Evil 4 (RE4) takes a departure from prior games in the Resident Evil series by being much more action-focused. The game was originally released in January of 2005 as a non-VR title and received rave reviews. Its highly-rated gameplay has withstood both the test of time and the transition over to VR in this superb Quest 2 port.
RE4 VR takes this modern classic and makes it even better with full motion control support and improved inventory, combat, and puzzle mechanics.
Pistol Whip
- Genre: Music & Rhythm, Shooting
- Price: $29.99
Shoot the bad guys whilst dodging their bullets and other obstacles to the tune of some amazing soundtracks. Pistol Whip features a host of quality content to get stuck into with 30 hand-crafted stages, five weapon types, modifiers, and story-driven campaigns.
Be warned, you won’t look cool from the perspective of someone watching from the outside, but when you are playing, this game will make you feel like some kind of John Wick killing machine. It’s also a pretty good workout too, and there have been many times when I was enjoying myself so much that I didn’t realize how much exercise I was actually doing.
Until You Fall
- Genre: Action, RPG (Role-Playing Game), Roguelite
- Price: $24.99
Until You Fall takes an arcade action game and throws in some roguelike and rhythm elements to make what is in my opinion one of the best VR games ever. Gameplay involves using sword and sorcery to battle your way through a series of stages that get progressively more difficult as you go.
The combat mechanics are a masterclass in how to deliver fast-paced, melee action that achieves a perfect balance between speed, accuracy, and strategy. It’s a challenging game, so expect to die and expect to die often, but the addictive skill-based combat will have you coming back time and time again.
Puzzling Places
- Genre: Puzzle
- Price: $14.99
As much as I love action games, whenever I am in the mood for something more relaxed I usually turn to Puzzling Places. This game can be played seated and involves putting together beautifully realistic miniatures of locations from around the world. Each miniature has been re-created from 3D photogrammetry scans to provide hyper-realistic detail.
A nice additional feature is the atmospheric sounds you hear upon completing certain sections. For example, putting together the pieces of a clock tower will reward you with the sound of chimes and tolling bells. There are around 17 puzzles to choose from at the time of writing and each is available to complete as a 25, 50, 100, 200, or 400-piece puzzle depending on your skill level.
Cosmodread
- Genre: Action, Horror
- Price: $14.99
Do what you can to survive long enough to repair your spaceship and safely return to earth in this bone-chilling survival horror experience. Cosmodread, when played with headphones, is easily one of the most atmospheric and creepy experiences I have had in VR to date.
Exploring a dark, oppressive spaceship whilst using your cunning to survive the monstrous inhabitants expertly pulls off the feeling of being trapped, vulnerable, and fighting for your life. The ship layout is also procedurally generated meaning it changes each time you play and there are plenty of modifiers that give Cosmodread a lot of potential replay value.
Into The Radius
- Genre: Action, Horror, Shooting
- Price: $29.99
Enter the Pechorsk zone, a massive open-world wasteland complete with surreal landscapes and dangerous stalking anomalies/entities. Much of the gameplay involves scavenging for items and organizing your loadout to give you the best chance of surviving the unforgiving world outside.
Into The Radius features a level of complexity and realism that takes the survival experience to the next level. Making sure you are well fed, rested, stocked up on supplies, and keeping equipment maintained are just some of the things you’ll need to stay on top of if you hope to survive.
I Expect You To Die 2
- Genre: Adventure, Interactive Story, Puzzle
- Price: $24.99
Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is to defeat the evil Zoraxis’ organization and foil their plans for world domination. I Expect You To Die 2 puts you in the black-polished shoes of a secret agent, tasked with solving deadly puzzles that will often lead to your demise in a variety of hilariously creative ways.
The story, environments, and puzzle-solving are done in a way that’s so incredibly cinematic and unforgettable that it will engage you from beginning to end and leave you wanting more.
Walkabout Mini Golf
- Genre: Simulation, Sports
- Price: $14.99
There are a few golf games on the Quest 2 but none quite like Walkabout Mini Golf. The base game delivers 144 holes to master with over 188 custom balls to find hidden throughout each course. If that’s not enough, there’s also online multiplayer support for up to eight players and a treasure hunt on each of the courses that you can solve to earn special putters.
Each of the eight courses is brilliantly designed, with excellent club and ball physics making gameplay a treat. Walkabout Mini Golf is as much a social experience as it is a golf game, and nothing beats catching up with a friend or two whilst playing a few holes. There’s also DLC that can be purchased for a small cost which adds new modes and holes to the game, with my personal favorite being the course based on the 1986 classic film, Labyrinth.
In Death: Unchained
- Genre: Action, Shooting
- Price: $29.99
In Death is a rogue-lite bow-and-arrow shooter where you have to confront the forsaken souls and demons that have taken over the afterlife as you battle through heaven, purgatory, and hell.
It has all the difficulty and challenge of a game like Dark Souls, only with archery.
It can’t be stressed enough that this game can be brutal, so unless you are Legolas from The Lord of the Rings, expect to be challenged. But as challenging as it is, it doesn’t feel unfair. If you die more often than not it is because you weren’t fast enough, accurate enough, or making good use of the terrain. You will improve with each play-through but don’t expect the game to cut you too much slack.
In Death has beautiful visuals, a ton of replayability, amazing bow mechanics, and that highly addictive “just one more go” feeling that will keep you hooked.
*Special Shoutout* Bonelab
- Genre: Action, Adventure, Shooting
- Price: $39.99
Last month Bonelab launched on Quest 2 and PC VR, taking players on a one-of-a-kind physics-driven adventure unlike anything available on VR headsets at the moment. Stress Level Zero’s mind-bending game has players exploring a digital labyrinth filled with all manner of virtual enemies to fight and impossible puzzles to overcome.
While the game does feature a light campaign, the real fun is in the mini-games and sandbox. Here you can experiment with a variety of different weapons and objects, navigate vastly different environments, and hunt down hidden Easter Eggs that unlock even more content.
There’s even support for mods, allowing other developers to implement their own content. We’re excited to see how this game continues to develop moving forward, which is why we felt it deserved an honorable mention on our list.
